G2 Esports’ foray into the North American scene has concluded after their underwhelming performance in VCL NA Split 2. According to the organization, Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan will transition to content creation.

G2 had been planning their move to the United States for some time, with hopes of participating in the 2023 VCT Americas. However, a public incident involving former CEO Carlos Rodriguez led to their exclusion from the Americas partnership. Consequently, G2 had to readjust their plans and focus on building a team for Tier 2’s Challengers League North America.

The North American roster, announced in December, featured former players from Sentinels and Version1, along with the rising talent Francis “OXY” Hoang, who previously played for Knights Academy and Dark Ratio. Additionally, Ian “Immi” Harding, a former V1 coach, joined as part of the coaching staff.

G2’s entry into the New World began on a positive note, as they finished third overall in the first Split and climbed to second place in the Mid-Season Face Off. However, their journey took a downturn with a loss in the Mid-Season grand finals, followed by a series of five consecutive losses, resulting in G2 ending Split 2 without a single win.

Despite qualifying for the playoffs based on accumulated points, G2 only managed to secure one victory and fell short of the top four positions. Nonetheless, their playoff appearance ensured their participation in next year’s VCL NA, alongside the other seven playoff teams and the two best teams from the Play-In Relegation.

All former G2 members are currently seeking new opportunities. While ShahZaM has not made any public statements, G2’s Valorant Twitter account confirmed his continuation as a content creator for the organization.

G2 Esports’ roster consisted of:

  • Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan
  • Michael “dapr” Gulino
  • Maxim “wippie” Shepelev
  • Francis “OXY” Hoang
  • Erik “penny” Penny
  • Ian “Immi” Harding (Coach)
  • Dani “Dani” Hashweh (Assistant coach)
